Cultural Recovery Centre
The place we go to remember who we are.
The Vision
Yes there are hard times in the community, but don’t lose hope. There is a group of us at the Centre rising up, and we want you to join us.
Colonization is the ongoing takeover of Indigenous lands and lives. It inflicts deep wounds on our bodies, minds, emotions, spirits, and The Land. This is known as trauma. It causes lasting harm. This leads to addiction, poverty, and violence. It also makes us dependant on government systems that get in the way of true healing. We become like house cats in cages, waiting to be fed and looked after.
In our vision of the future, we are the mighty Lynx! We are free, self-sufficient, and strong. Charlie Wesley speaks of going back to The Land to allow the ‘Spirit of the Hunt’ to return to us again. The Spirit of the Hunt is our instinct to survive and provide, which extends into all areas of our lives. To do this, we must learn the teachings from our elders now, before they leave for the spirit world.
At the Cultural Recovery Centre, we come to remember who we are. We are bringing back our culture, language, and teachings. We are reconnecting with the Land. This helps us heal ourselves, our families, and our community. It also deepens our bond with the Creator.
We invite you to rise up with us.
The People
These are the people behind the programs at the Cultural Recovery Centre.
Our people are the reason we are rising up to revitalize our culture. Our community, our way of life, our people are important to us. These programs are happening by our people and for our people with some support from safe people outside the community.
These are the places the programs will happen. Beyond the Cultural Recovery Centre itself, there are a few other places in the community that are important to the programs that are revitalizing our culture.
